TITLE: Bilingual Paraprofessional
REPORTS TO: ESL Coordinator, Principal
JOB GOAL: Assist in conducting learning experiences for students in ESL; perform a variety of clerical and supportive tasks for instructional personnel; and to perform related work as required.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Tutor or assist a group of children in English practices designed by an ESL teacher.
- Review and summarize learning of specific skills.
- Assist in monitoring student’s academic progress.
- Oversees and supervises students during classroom activities.
- Maintains discipline in the absence of the teacher.
- Assist in communicating with Limited English Proficient students and families.
QUALIFICATION GUIDE:
Knowledge of:
- General Concepts of child growth and development and child behavior characteristics.
- General Purposes and goals of public education.
- Second Language (Spanish, preferred) and educational vocabulary in both languages.
Ability to:
- Assume responsibility for supervising students.
- Learn and utilize basic methods and procedures to be followed in instructional settings.
- Perform routine clerical work and basic arithmetical calculation.
- Demonstrate an understanding, patient, warm and receptive attitude toward children.
- Understand and carry out oral and written instruction.
- Communicate and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, parents and the general public.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- An Associate of Arts Degree or 60 College hours or High School Diploma/GED and Successful Completion of the ParaPro Praxis Assessment with qualifying score.(Documentation must be provided.)
