JOB DESCRIPTION

 

 

TITLE:  Mechanic Helper

 

REPORTS TO:  Transportation Director & Shop Foreman

 

WAGE/HOUR STATUS: Non exempt

 

LENGTH OF CONTRACT: 249 Days

 

HOURS: 6:00 am - 3:00 pm

 

SALARY: $24,758.57 - $26,258.57

 

PRIMARY PURPOSE:  Assisting mechanics with fueling and maintaining the district fleet 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Education/ Certification:

• High school diploma
• CDL - Class B, No brake restrictions, Passenger & School Bus Endorsements

 

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS

 

Knowledge of:

• Basic spelling, language, and math skills
• Fluid preventative maintenance

 Ability to:

• Communicate effectively (verbally and written)
• Maintain emotional control under stress 
• Manage and prioritize job responsibilities
• Move around outside for sustained periods of times including during very hot or cold weather conditions
• Physically endure heavy and extensive lifting including manual labor
• Keep maintenance records

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 

• Assist mechanics with shop duties 
• Keep activity buses cleaned and fueled  
• Keep route buses fueled  
• Help keep Bus Shop and Bus Yard clean  
• Maintenance for buses and other district vehicles
• Drive a bus route as needed  
• Other duties as assigned
